This day in sports history...In 1896 the first modern Olympic Games took place in Athens, Greece.
Hello friends,
- April is here and sports fans know what that means. Baseball is back and I couldn't be happier. The Jays are off to a quick start and I am hoping that this trend continues. I thoroughly believe that this team can be competeing come September. Sure they are in a tough division but I am not as high on Boston this year as most people seem to be. They made some great acquisitions in the field but I don't feel that thier pitching is as strong as the public believes. Thier top three pitchers are solid but Josh Beckett is a question mark and you never know what type of season Matsuzaka will have. I see Jon Lester having a great year but he and Buchholz and Lackey cant carry the team. The Yankees have not done much to improve themselves surprisingly while the Rays have resorted to signing aging players such as Johnny Damon and Manny Ramierez to fill holes. Baltimore has made some improvements so we will see what happens. Go Jays!
- Congratulations to Kemba Walker and the UCONN Huskies on their NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.
- Either Tavis' skills at NHL 11 are diminishing or mine are getting better.
- Good luck to everyone in this last week of school!
Take care,
Nate

Losing My Left Ear
This day in sports history...In 1963 Sonny Werblin announced that the New York Titans of the American Football League was changing its name to the New York Jets.
Hello readers,
- Well, it's the home stretch for many of us in ECMM 470. I want to wish everyone the best of luck in finishing their remaining assignments and with their finals.
- Kevin Harvick's win this weekend at Fontana was absolutely amazing. The best finish that I have seen in a NASCAR race in a long time. This guy is the definition of a closer.
- So I didn't actually lose my left ear, but as of last night I am not able to hear out of it. I don't exactly know what happened but I am really hoping that my hearing comes back soon...kind of scary!
- March madness has been extremely entertaining as always. The final four is going to be awesome. Derrick Willaims of Arizona has definately bumped up his draft status with his dominance in this tournament. Several of the mock drafts have now moved him up the the number one pick in this years NBA draft. How about Butler advancing far into the tournament again this year?! Great to see a team that works so hard achieve success. Matt Howard is a solid player and a great competitior. Brad Stevens is proving that he is one of the top coaches in the NCAA and is building something special at Butler...Lets just hope that a big school with breifcase full of money doesn't lure him away from the program that he has built.
- This weather is getting to be a little ridiculous.
- I am getting really excited for my favorite time of year for sports! Baseballs regular season is starting soon, NHL and NBA playoffs get going, NASCAR is in full swing, and the masters is just over a week away! Can't wait for all of these events!
Take care,
Nate

Hey Friends!
This day in sports history...In 1996 Mike Tyson won the World Boxing Council heavyweight championship with a technical knockout of Frank Bruno in the third round.
Hey followers,
First off, I want to send out my thoughts and prayers to the people of Japan that have been affected by the unfortunate happenings that have occurred. People should never have to suffer what the country of Japan has been facing.
Just a few items to cover today:
- I am loving the weather right now! Bring on spring!
- March Madness officially began today with the play in game featuring UNC-Asheville topping Arkansas- Little Rock. Not really into the play in games but can't wait for the main action to tip off on thursday! Kansas looks to have a decent shot at advancing due to where they have been placed in the bracket. Even for being a number one seed, Ohio State is going to have a tough road to the final four as they have North Carolina, Syracuse, and Kentucky in their region. The tournament is going to be great! My sleeper pick to surprise a few teams is Belmont. If they can get past Wisconsin, they may surprise.
-Thumbs down for the Maloof Brothers getting closer to moving the Sacramento Kings to Anaheim. A few years ago, the Kings used to have one of the best arenas atmospheres. What a shame!
- It was great to see Sidney Crosby returning to the ice yesterday! Hopefully this concussion will not plague him too much and he can return to his old form. The Penguins absolutely need to make sure he is 100% ready to go before he plays.
Take care readers,
Nate

Baseball is Back, Cry-Gate, and Cheering for a Losing Team
This day in sports history... In 1971 Joe Frazier retained his world heavyweight championship by defeating Muhammad Ali in a 15-round decision. It was Ali's first loss in 32 professional fights.
Hey readers! Spring training games are well underway and I couldn't be happier! Im looking for the Blue Jays to have a decent year where we will see flashes of brilliance from young players such as JP Arencbia and Brett Lawrie when they get the chance. Can't wait to see Kyle Drebek on the hill getting some starts this season...he has the potential to be great. Ricky Romero is going to bring it this season and John Ferrell will only help his development. Go Jays!
How about Miami Heat players breaking down and crying after dropping to 0-9 versus the top four teams in the NBA...wow. This team is looking far from the 7 championships that LeBron James predicted. Can't wait to see these guys go down in the playoffs.
As bad as it sounds, I am hoping for the Raptors to lose as many games as possible down the stretch. They have a good young core in Derozan, Davis, Bargnani, Johnson, and Bayless and a high lottery pick in this years draft would help out big time.
Talk to you soon...

Thursday!
Today in sports history... In 1875 the first recorded hockey game was played in Montreal.
Hello readers!
It's thursday and every education student knows what that means...Its our friday! Hope each and every one of my followers is doing well.
A few items to share my thoughts about today...
With the NFL lockout deadline looming, I wonder if we will see NFL football next year. These money hungry owners and players need to get thier priorities straight and strike a deal. How would you feel if you were a tax payer that has to contribute hard earned money into construction a 1 billion dollar stadium and cant even watch your favorite team play next year? I wouldn't be too happy.
It blows my mind how Rogers Sportsnet and TSN can waste a full day of programming to show Bob Mckenzie, Darren Dreger and Doug Mclean playing with their Blackberry's only to report that the biggest trade of the day is Dustin Penner was dealt to the Kings. Where do these guys get their inside information from? Thier neighbor or the teams zamboni driver? What a joke!
Great trade for the Utah Jazz unloading disgruntled superstar Deron Williams for a great package of players and picks. Devin Harris' career could be revived and Derrick Favors has tremendous upside. The draft picks will definiately be good picks as New Jersey is awful once again this season.
How cool would it be if Winnipeg has an NHL franchise next season?!
Until next time...

E-Portfolio Proposal
This day in sports history... In 1935 the New York Yankees released Babe Ruth. Ruth signed with the Boston Red Sox for $20,000 and a share in the team's profits.
Hey followers!
I plan for my e-portfolio to be clean and simple to navigate. I will use a taskbar that is located on the left side of the web page that will provide headings that will link to appropriate information. Each page will be of similar layout and will not cause for any confusion. Here is a rough sample sketch (the actual site will have colour, images, and eye catching shapes):
Hey followers!
Hope Everyone had an awesome break. Here is my proposal for the major project in ECMM 470...
I have chosen to construct an e-portfolio for my major project in ECMM 470 as I believe that it would be an extremely helpful asset in my future when searching for prospective jobs. I feel that having an e-portfolio would be something that would be fitting as our world is ever changing and is becoming more and more technology based. Having my personal qualifications and information in one place online would make a simple and clean presentation of what I have accomplished and what I plan to accomplish. This e-portfolio would save me the hassle of carrying around a large binder and would be easy to add items to it. An e-portfolio will help me professionally as I plan on teaching some classes in the area of communications. Having an e-portfolio would allow me to post sample projects that I have created and also post work that students in my classes have done. Having these files online will be easier than including a bunch of CD’s and DVD’s in a binder. The e-portfolio will give me the freedom and flexibility to customize it to my liking and add to it as my career as a teacher progresses.
I plan on including information such as my current cover letter and resume, internship assessment, reference letters, certificates, my personal philosophy on education, project samples (Video, Drafting, Photos) that I have completed or students in my classes have created, lesson plans, unit plans, course plans, extracurricular information, student teaching reviews, and any other general information about myself that I find in the process. This information will give prospective employers a good overview of the type of person that I am and the type of teacher that I am.
I plan for the site to have a colour theme that is pleasing to the eye and a setup that is not too busy. The page will stay consistent no matter what section the user is viewing. This means that the taskbar to the left and the banner above will be on every page that is viewed on this site. My overall goal is to make it user friendly.
My concerns about creating this portfolio are that I may not have access to materials such as certificates and achievements anymore. I will search for these materials and hope to find them so I can put them into electronic form. Another concern is that I will have to track down projects that have been created in my classes to obtain photos of them to display. I will also have to convert video to put on this site which should not be a large issue but problems can arise so I hope to have everything go smoothly for me. I plan to tackle each of these concerns by working through each situation as needed and if a certain idea will absolutely not work I will find a new idea that will suit my portfolio. I will use online resources to assist me with any future concerns that I have and will also use the help of my instructor and fellow classmates. My last concern is the issue of privacy. I do not want this site to be viewed by the wrong people or have any of my information stolen. I will address this issue by discussing it with my professor.
Have a good one!

The Losing Streak Has Ended!
This day in sports history... in 1998 Dale Earnhardt won NASCAR's Daytona 500 for the first time. The win occurred on his 20th attempt.
Hey followers! I have big news to announce...my NHL 11 losing streak to Tavis (writer of Tavis' Two Minute Minor) is over! The Kings defeated Tavis' beloved Sharks 3 - 2 in the ninth round of a shoot out with Ryan Smyth scoring the winning goal! Woooooooooo!
In recent days Mario Lemieux has voiced his disgust with the governing of the NHL after his team faced off in a brutal display on the ice in a loss to the lowly New York Islanders. I believe that Lemieux is bringing up valid points but I also feel that he is upset because at the moment the Penguins are basically playing with an AHL roster and are struggling. About a month ago the Penguins looked like the best team in the NHL but after losing their star players to injury, they have sunk. Lemieux's comments are valid but Mario needs to remember that his signature is on Matt Cooke's paycheck, who is one of the dirtiest players in the game. Just my thoughts.
I want to wish my followers a great february break! I will be out of the country next week so I won't be posting for a little while. Until next time...

Rough Few Games
This day in sports history...in 1997 Scotty Bowman won his 1000th NHL game as a head coach.
Shout out to Greg for his comments on last weeks post!
Congrats to the Packers and their fans on a well played game in the Super Bowl. I have a bitter taste in my mouth as I have been a Steelers fan since I began watching football as a kid, so it hurts. Next year I look for a stellar season from the Steelers and hope that they can make it back to the big game and win it all to make it 3 championships in 7 years.
With the Packers winning you have to wonder what all of the people who were calling for the firing of Packers GM Ted Thompson after drafting Aaron Rodgers in 2005 are saying now. The Packers seem to be one of the only teams that have done things right in finding a successor to take over after Brett Favre's career was undoubtedly on the decline back then. Teams like the Dolphins, 49ers, and Bills are still struggling and have not found proper replacements for their past superstar quarterbacks. Rodgers has won just as many Super Bowls as Favre now and has many more years to shine in the league. I give credit to the Packers for having the guts to make a move that many other teams would have not made.
I wonder if there will be a lockout next season in the NFL...
Last night I faced off in an online head to head battle in NHL 11 vs Tavis once again. Lately we have been playing pretty evenly but last night was not good. After a weekend of not playing any games, Tavis dominated me in a three game series where I could not seem to pull it together. My skills seemed as if they have left me. No matter what team I was it didn't seem to matter. The Kings are usually my go to team to match up with Tavis but they couldn't cut it. Looks like it is time for me to get some practice in and redeem myself.
Check out North Battleford on Wikipedia. For the class assignment, I have changed the city name to N Bizzle. So far it has not been set back.

The First Post
This day in sports history... In 2004 Janet Jackson's breast was exposed during the half-time show of Super Bowl XXXVIII, resulting in US broadcasters adopting a stronger adherence to FCC censorship guidelines.
Hello sweet world! This is my first post on this blog where I will share my thoughts and interests with my followers. Feel free to share your thoughts with me. Not a whole lot to report today so I will just share some thoughts. The weekend in the sports world was horrendous with the NHL All-Star game and the Pro Bowl stinking up television...thank God for college basketball and golf. All -Star games are awful! My disgust with TSN is growing more and more every day with their adding of That's Hockey 2Nite with ultimate puckhead Steve Kouleas. Their ridiculous over analyzing and coverage of meaningless hockey games in unbelievable. I understand analyzing important games but breaking down the all-star game for hours is a bit much. I am a fan of hockey but TSN really annoys me. I have become even more of a fan of Kevin Durant after this weekend as he outplayed and outclassed the most overrated player in the NBA...Chris Bosh. Not much else to share today other than I will be taking on my 402 classmate, Tavis in a game of NHL 11. He is in for a challenge!
